Greenhouse’s popular Swimming Club brought a festive end to the year with a spectacular Winter Festival Swimming Gala.
Swimmers and parents packed out St Paul’s Girls’ School pool for a fun afternoon of individual and team races and water polo.
The day ended with mince pies, medals and certificates to recognise the hard work of all the young people who took part.
Holly Abdelghafar, Greenhouse Programme Manager, said: “What a fantastic end to 2011. All our young people did extremely well and showed off the skills they have learnt throughout the year.
“But above all it was a fun day and one many of the young people won’t forget – including one boy who told me, whilst collecting his medal, that it was the best day of his life as he had never won a medal before.”
Greenhouse Community Swimming Club offers both disabled and able-bodied young people the chance to learn to swim together and improve their skills and fitness.
Held every Saturday at St Paul’s Girls’ School in Hammersmith the club has sessions for beginners, building their confidence in the water, followed by sessions for those keen to master more swimming strokes and pool skills.
Last month the club won the Inclusive and Active Sports Award at Hammersmith and Fulham’s Community Sports Awards.
