Greenhouse basketball players experienced life as NBA superstars thanks to a top American coach.
Neal Meyer, a coach whose illustrious National Basketball Association career includes stints at the Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs headed a special training day in south London.
Over 60 players gathered at Stockwell Park High School including players from four other Greenhouse schools; Pimlico Academy, Norwood School, Bacon’s Academy and Lilian Baylis.
If any Greenhouse players came into the morning thinking that life in the NBA was all slam-dunks and sports-drink endorsements, the intensive introductory session was quick to correct them.
“To be successful on court you can’t take short cuts”Neil said, and nobody missed his point after a morning of high-speed skills and fitness work.
In the afternoon, the Greenhouse players were back on court for matches, with mixed teams so students from different schools competed as team-mates.
Jenny Ridgway, Greenhouse Coach at Stockwell Park, said: “It was great to see young people from different schools, different parts of London, coming together and working well with each other.”
“They all really enjoyed the day. And of course, it was fantastic opportunity to work with someone who has seen the game at its highest level.”
