Ashley, 16, has Erbs Palsy, a paralysis of his right arm which means he plays table tennis with his left arm.
A pupil at Morpeth School in East London, Ashley is just one of the schools and England’s top table tennis players being taught by Greenhouse Coach Grant Solder.
He trains alongside U19 champion Sally Hoang, U16 champion Harriet Taylor and no 1 seed Majeda Yasmin.
Ashley, said: “I first picked up a table tennis bat in a PE class and thought this is fun when Greenhouse Coach Grant came over and told me I told me I was good and I should come to his training sessions.
“If I wasn’t doing TT I might be just running around doing nothing or getting into trouble maybe. TT has helped me focus in many different ways.”
He added: “Greenhouse has helped me to compete around the world and I’m determined to work hard and hopefully make London 2012 Paralympics.”
Fifty of the top 100 national under 18 table tennis champions come from Greenhouse. We bring the sport to over 5000 boys and girls in primary and secondary schools across London. Our players are coached and mentored by former professional and world class table tennis players.
