“I came from Chechnya and couldn’t speak any English but judo helped me to make friends and learn the language. Before Greenhouse, nothing motivated me; my friends were taking up smoking or drinking because there wasn’t anything to do. But my coach, Darren, saw my potential. He inspired me to train hard and I’m now British Junior Champion. Judo keeps me focused and has given me discipline.”
Working in partnership with the British Judo Association we run a programme where former pupil and Olympian and Commenwealth gold medalist, Winston Gordon, coaches pupils. Winston who will compete in the Olympics, works alongside coach Darren Hawney to teach tolerance and discipline within judo, the school and the wider community.
